Volunteer

Want to be a part of something amazing!?! PISTP volunteer work is exciting and rewarding… walking patrol, verifying nests, repair/maintenance of nests due to animal predation, nest runway prep, building sand berms for tide & storm prep, nest excavation, public conservation education, and much more… rain or shine! Patrollers get the first breathtaking views of sunrise, and nest teams get to watch shooting stars at night. The commitment to all this sweaty sandy work is SO worth it… knowing you have made a difference in the survival of an endangered species (while making incredible memories with new friends) is priceless.
Our mission is simple… to ensure the preservation and protection of threatened and endangered sea turtles.
Sea turtles are Federally protected, so our volunteers work under an endangered species permit from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, and must follow federal and state guidelines during all PISTP activities. There will be mandatory info sessions and training to provide these guidelines to all volunteers.
***Please note… We would love to be able to select everyone that applies, but we have a limited number of volunteer spots available. We will notify all applicants of application status mid-March. (Those selected must attend a mandatory new volunteer info session late-March. Then orientation takes place late March/early April, and the season starts May 1st.) We thank you for your interest in supporting our project and wish you our turtley best! Good luck!
